Open Americas is accepting submissions for its First Annual Photo Contest, beginning Monday, June 18th at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and ending Monday, July 9 at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. By submitting an official entry, each participant agrees to the rules below and states that he or she is at least 18 years old. 

HOW TO ENTER

Email your photo to team@openamericas.org.

WHO MAY ENTER

To enter, you must be over 18 years of age.

WHAT TO ENTER

Photos of the Americas (all nations in the Western Hemisphere) will be considered in two categories: landscape (urban or rural) and portrait (photos of individuals who have consented to being photographed). Photos must be original and have been taken after 2010.

We do not accept digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos.

Please include a brief description of the photo (including location, year, and other relevant information) with your submission.

HOW TO ENTER

Please submit photos and requested information to team@openamericas.org with the subject line “Submission: Photo Contest.” You may submit up to three photos.

Images must be submitted as a .jpeg, .jpg, or .gif.

You retain your rights to your photograph. However, by entering the photo contest, you grant Open Americas a world-wide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive license to publicly display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of entries, in whole or in part, in any current media or media that is developed later, for any Open Americas purpose, including, but not limited to, advertising and promotion of the OA website. All reproduced photographs will credit photographers, but OA is not be required to pay a consideration or seek any additional approval with these image uses.

Please see the photos in our existing photo galleries for examples of the type of content Open Americas is interested in. We will not consider photos that are discriminatory or off-topic or that contain nudity, explicit images, or graphic violence. Open Americas reserves the right to reject submissions on other grounds.

ENTRY DEADLINE

Submit all photos by Monday, July 9 at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time to be considered for the contest.

JUDGING

Photos will be considered for originality, creatively, and their portrayal of the Americas as a diverse, nuanced region full of hope for the future.

PRIZES

Five prizes will be awarded: a winner and runner-up in the category of portrait and a winner and runner-up in the category of landscape in addition to a grand prize winner. Honorable mentions may be awarded for particularly deserving submissions.

While OA will not grant prize money, photos will be prominently displayed across all digital platforms and winners will be recognized by name.
